Director: of the National Consortium on Deaf-Blindness (Position #TR-284)

The Nat'l Consortium on Deaf-Blindness (NCDB) is part of the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs national technical assistance and dissemination (TA&D) network. The Director of NCDB is responsible for all activities of the project and its day-to-day management. The position requires extensive travel and coordination with OSEP and within its national TA&D network. The duties of the NCDB Director will include: Grant Management, Fiscal Management, Personnel, Technical Assistance and Information Services, and Relationships with other Agencies, including communicating with the NCDB's Federal Program Officer(s), State/Multi-State Project Directors and project partners on an ongoing basis. Qualifications include: a minimum of five years experience in a special education, adult services, and/or human services leadership role with deaf-blind intervention strategy and effective practice experience; demonstrated history of successful grant writing; demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills; and preferred: Ph.D. or equivalent; a history of successful publications; proficiency in American Sign Language among other qualifications. Salary range is negotiable dependent upon qualifications and experience plus an excellent benefit package. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2009 or sooner. 16th Annual Northwest Dispute Resolution Conference

Request for Proposals -- Deadline is November 20, 2008. Participants desire sessions that offer exercises and interaction and minimize the lecture approach. We encourage proposals that emphasize active learning "how to" sessions, role plays, case studies and time for group discussion. Past topics include large group facilitation, using humor in mediation, mediating on line, mediation across cultures, ADR in the federal courts, and peer mediation programs in schools. Visit our contacts including website for more details of how to submit proposals. For example, sessions may range from 50 minutes to two hours in length. Proposal material will include presentation style, e.g. 10-15% on overheads, 35-40% on role-play, etc. Also, sessions are limited to three presenters and a 12 page limit to written materials. The DR Conference Committee will notify all submitting parties of their participation status by early January 2009. Attendees include mediators, arbitrators, attorneys, government representatives, human resources personnel, advocates, ombudsmen and counselors.
