Prospective Applicant: The OSSE, Government of the District of Columbia, is seeking applicants to become the Independent Chief Hearing Officer (a new position - in 2009) for the D.C. Special Education Due Process Hearing System established pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act ("IDEA"). OSSE was created under the Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007, and will function in much the same way as a state dep't of education. OSSE works with the District of Columbia Public Schools. The Chief Hearing Officer position is vital to sustaining the special education hearing system in a manner that is independent, fair, and impartial. The OSSE is looking for a strong and committed individual able to make an impact by establishing the highest standards for administrative law practice and effectively managing continuing improvement in the hearing system. UO TACS wishes to open a pool to which interested candidates may apply for any and all upcoming positions. Pool applicants will be considered for positions if and when they become available. These are grant funded positions, salary ranges are $47,500-$67,500, depending upon position, education and experience. TACS assists State Education and Lead Agencies. Also Noteable: TACS operates the Western Regional Resource Center (WRRC/see contacts below) that provides quality programs and services for children with disabilites and their families. They offer consultation, technical assistance, etc. to providers across regional boundaries. TACS EMPLOYEES DUTIES may include conducting policy analyses for program evaluations, researching a wide variety of improvements concerning students with disabilities, advising clients regarding assistance, working on culturally appropriate activities including training activities and teleconferences where research-based practices are disseminated. Employees may produce presentations and publications for a variety of cultural audiences, and facilitate state efforts to implement the requirements of IDEA and NCLB. Travel is required. Paper Competition
Poetry Contest
As part of Conflict Resolution Day, October 21, 2010, "Why not celebrate with a local poetry writing event!" ACR will accept poems on "Peace In My Community" from grade categories 3-5th, 6-8th, and 9-12th. Student prizes: 1st Place -- $100; 2nd Place -- $75. In March 2006, ACRs Board of Directors adopted a resolution designating the third Thursday in October as Conflict Resolution Day. Going forward, Conflict Resolution Day, An Annual International Celebration, will always be held on the third Thursday of October. 2009 poems by 1st & 2nd place winners, plus honorable mention, as well as many other outstanding poems (in each grade category), can be viewed on the ACR website. "Community", in the guideline "Peace In My Community", may be defined in any way that the student poets would like.
