Hearing Officer Academy/15th Annual Education Law Conference
This high quality training for hearing officers, a one and a half day Academy open to all states, includes access to the general offerings of the Conference for a half day, including special ed. related issues. The Academy will provide training in current developments in special education law by Professor Mark Weber of DePaul University; and skills training in decision writing and dealing with objections and witnesses by experienced hearing officer and national trainer, James Gerl. Gerl has trained hearing officers for all 50 states and beyond. Federal attorneys from OSEP will also provide training in early childhood systems and Part C to B transition issues and information about trends in dispute resolution. Strengthening the Circle: Including Children and Young Adults with Disabilities
The NIPIC Annual Conference, in partnership with EPICS (Education for Parents of Indian Children with Special Needs), is for Native American family members, tribal leaders, health professionals, mental health workers, tribal and public school administers; teachers, counselors, educators, and staff, BIA and IHS staff, elders and others who are interested in ensuring the Special Education needs for Native American students who are age 0  26. Conference goals include: Families learning stress reduction techniques to assist in dealing with children with disabilities; Positive behavioral interventions; and Successful strategies for improved educational outcomes for children with disabilities. Proposals are now being accepted for workshops, panels or presentations related to special education related topics that focus on families, schools, tribal communities and special education students. Note: Proposals (60 minutes with a 200 word abstract) must be submitted by July 15, 2008. Visit our website for specific guidelines.
